Born in 1969 in Tokat/Reşadiye, Murat Demirkol
graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Theology in 1990. He completed his
Master's degree in 1994 at the Institute of Social Sciences with a thesis
titled “The Search for Truth According to Ibn Tufeyl,” and his Doctorate in
2007 at the same institute with a thesis titled “Nasiruddin Tusi's Avicennism.”
He worked as a teacher at the Ministry of National Education between 1990 and
2010. Demirkol, who has been a faculty member in the Department of Islamic
Philosophy at the Faculty of Theology at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazit University
since 2011, is married and has two children. Demirkol has published articles,
papers, book chapters, original books, and translations on Islamic philosophy
and ethics. Demirkol completed the TUBİTAK 1001 project titled “Examination of
the Development and Originality of Philosophy within the Tradition of
Commentaries on Al-Isharat ve’t-Tanbihat”. He organized three international
symposiums: Philosophy in the 13th Century; Philosophy, Kalām, and Sufism in
the 14th-15th Centuries; and Kemalpashazade (Ibn Kemal). He organized three

Thought; Kemalpashazâde (Ibn Kemal). Demirkol's prominent books and
translations include: Virtue Ethics in Islamic Thought; The Influence of Nasireddin
Tusi on Moral Philosophy; Tûsî's Defense of Avicenne; Translation of Ibn Sînâ's
Dânishnâme-i Alâî from Persian into Turkish, Translation of Tusi's Ahlâk-i
Nâsırî; simplification of Kınalızâde's Ahlâk-i Alâî from Ottoman
Turkish to modern Turkish; Translation of Hüseyin Vaiz Kâshifî's Ahlâk-i
Muhsinî from Persian into Turkish.
