Lect. PhD EMRE DÜZENLİ

Emre Düzenli was born in Ankara in 1980. He completed his undergraduate education in the Department of Environmental Engineering at Middle East Technical University. He began his bağlama education with İhsan Öztürk, one of the important masters of folk music, as a source person, compiler, performer, researcher, and instructor. From the beginning of his undergraduate education, he worked with Prof. Dr. Cenk Güray on topics such as Turkish music theory, monophonic and polyphonic applications in solo and ensemble performances. He also had the opportunity to work with Prof. Dr. Okan Murat Öztürk on bağlama performance, Turkish music theory and form, focusing on practice, theory, and analysis. All these studies greatly contributed to the development of his musical perception and the formation of a holistic perspective that encompasses all components of Turkish music.

Düzenli completed his master's degree at the Department of Musicology at Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory with a thesis on the modal analysis of Turkish folk music melodies, and his doctoral degree at the Department of Music Education at Gazi University with a thesis on structural organization analysis in Turkish folk music. As a result of these studies, he developed an analysis model for identifying structural features in Turkish folk music, centered on time organization and based on a grouping approach, and established the principles for producing variants and original works based on folk music pieces.

Since 2012, Düzenli has continued his work as a lecturer at the Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University State Conservatory of Turkish Music. In addition to participating as a soloist and group performer in numerous concerts, workshops, radio programs, and television programs, he has prepared various translations, articles, and papers in the fields of Turkish music theory and analysis.

As an educator, he has taught courses on Turkish music styles and forms, musical analysis, music terminology, bağlama performance, and scientific research techniques. He is currently continuing his work on the concept of “ika” and its decisive role in the production of Turkish music works. Düzenli is married and has one child.
