He was born in Bayburt in 1964. He graduated from the Faculty of Theology at Uludağ University in 1987. In 1990, he completed his master’s degree at the Department of Hadith, Institute of Social Sciences, Uludağ University, with his thesis titled Dârimî and His Sunan. In 1996, at the same department of the Institute of Social Sciences at Ankara University, he completed his Ph.D. with a dissertation titled The Foundations of Sufism in the Hadiths. In 1997, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hadith at the Faculty of Theology, Süleyman Demirel University. He became an Associate Professor in 2006 and a Full Professor in 2011. Between 2009 and 2012, he served as a visiting scholar at Khoja Ahmed Yasawi International Kazakh-Turkish University in Turkistan, Kazakhstan. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Hadith, Basic Islamic Sciences Division, Faculty of Theology, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, where he continues his academic studies. He is proficient in Arabic and German.
