Biography
Assoc. Prof. Abdullah Tirgil is
an accomplished academic in the field of Economics, specializing in areas such
as Health Economics, Labor Economics, and Public Policy. He currently serves as
an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Ankara Yildirim
Beyazit University.
Dr. Tirgil's academic journey is marked by international experience. He earned his Doctorate in Applied Economics from Northeastern University in the United States (2011–2016). His doctoral dissertation focused on three empirical essays concerning the Turkish Health Care System. Prior to his doctoral studies, he completed two Postgraduate degrees at Western Illinois University: one in Mathematics (2010–2011) and another in Economics (2008–2010). He holds an Undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems from Boğaziçi University (2003–2008).
His research is extensive, with 56 publications and a significant citation record, including an H-Index of 6 on both Web of Science and Scopus. His work frequently appears in high-impact journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production (SCI-Expanded), BMJ Global Health (SCI-Expanded) , and Journal of Public Health Policy (SCI-Expanded), with recent publications addressing topics like the link between noncontributory health insurance and crime, attitudes toward long-term care, and Industry 4.0 applications.
He has been the principal investigator or researcher on multiple TUBITAK-funded projects, focusing on areas like the impact of hosting refugees on household consumption, the causal effect of education on mental health, and the effect of health insurance on social behaviors. His contributions have been recognized with awards, including the TÜBA GEBİP Award from the Turkish Academy of Sciences in 2022.
