Biography

Mehmet Ata Az received his undergraduate degree from the Faculty of Theology at Ankara University. He earned his M.A. in 2006 from the Institute of Social Sciences at the same university with a thesis titled The Stone Paradox in the Context of the Divine Attribute of Power (Kudret Sıfatı Bağlamında Taş Paradoksu). He completed his Ph.D. in 2013 at Ankara University with a dissertation entitled The Knowability of God in the Context of Divine Simplicity (İlahi Basitlik Bağlamında Tanrı’nın Bilinebilirliği).

In 2009, he was appointed as a Research Assistant at the Faculty of Divinity, Şırnak University, where he later became an Assistant Professor in 2013. In 2015, he joined Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Theology. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 2019 and to Full Professor in 2025.

During his doctoral studies, he conducted research at Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), and Hartford International University. He also carried out postdoctoral research as a visiting scholar at the University of Notre Dame (2018–2019) and the University of Cambridge (2023–2024).

His primary research interests include philosophy of religion, classical and contemporary theological problems, and comparative studies between Islamic and Western philosophical traditions.

He is currently a faculty member in the Department of Philosophy of Religion at the Faculty of Divinity, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.
