Biography

I completed my undergraduate education in the Departments of History, and Arabic Language and Literature at Istanbul University, and then continued my master's degree at the same university to research the Ottoman Middle East in the Modern Age. In my research on the Egyptian port of Alexandria in the 18th century, which is based on Ottoman archives, I focused on maritime trade, production and trade in Egypt, and center-periphery relations. I completed my doctoral studies at the Center for Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham, with a scholarship provided by the Ministry of National Education, with a thesis in which I researched the details of the political, financial and military history of the Ottoman Egypt in the 18th century within the framework of the rebellion of Bulutkapan Ali Bey. Since 2020, I have been teaching courses in Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Department of History in different fields, including Colonization/Decolonization, Ottoman Statecraft, and Environmental History. Within the framework of the social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire, my previous research focused on the Mediterranean studies, trade in the Mediterranean, the center-periphery relations in the Ottoman administration, the concept of rebellion, and the political and financial administration in the province of Egypt. Building on these topics, my interest and research continues on the Ottoman political history, environmental history and history of ideas. My detailed research continues on the intellectual environment in Ottoman Egypt in the 18th century through historians, environmental history in the concept of agricultural production environments, and the organization and relationship networks of local elites in regional administration.
