Prof. BÜLENT AKOT

Biography

He was born in Bitlis / Center. He graduated from the Electrical Department of Bitlis Industrial Vocational High School with the first place. He also won the Provincial First Prize.He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Theology (2002). He completed his master's degree in the Department of Psychology of Religion at Ankara University Institute of Social Sciences (2005). He completed his doctorate in the same institute in the Department of Sufism (2010). He worked as a Religious Culture Teacher at the Ministry of National Education (2005-2010). He worked as a lecturer at Bitlis Eren University, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Sociology (2010-2014). In the same university, he also had administrative services as the Director of the Vocational School of Social Sciences, Head of the Department of Sociology, Head of the Department of Sociology and Member of the Senate between 2010-2013. Since February 2014, he has been working at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences, Department of Sufism. In 2015, he received the title of Associate Professor in the field of Sufism. He continues his studies by taking the title of Professor in the Department of Sufism on February 02, 2021. He served as a member of the Board of Directors of AYBU Faculty of Islamic Sciences and Head of the Department of Sufism. He is currently working as a Senate Representative. His academic fields of study are Sufism, Psychology and Sociology. In the 2017-2018 academic year, he taught Religious Culture and Moral Knowledge Teaching in the Department of Classroom Teaching at Hacettepe University Faculty of Education. 

The author, who speaks Arabic and English, has 95 international printed publications, 57 book editorships, 13 copyrighted and translated books, and 25 international articles and papers in English and Turkish. He also has 200 video broadcasts (approximately 2000 minutes) on 200 different subjects related to his field.

Among his latest publications is Derviş Sözlük published by Gazi Kitabevi and he is both the editor and the author of Sufism I and Sufism II of the project called Kavram Atlası Külliyatı, which is realized under the roof of Gazi Kitabevi and consists of 34 books. In addition to all these academic studies, he endeavors to convey his scholarly knowledge to people in the digital field through social media platforms such as the Derviş Sözlük Youtube channel he founded himself.
