Abstract

Silver (Ag) and Titanium-diboride (TiB2) reinforced Ag based nanocomposite coatings were deposited on copper backing with the electrodeposition method. Direct current (DC), pulse current (PC) and pulse reverse current (PRC) methods were used to obtain better physical, chemical and electrical properties for electrical contact materials. The effects of TiB2 reinforcement and current types on microstructure, mechanical properties and crystallographic structure were analyzed. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Vickers micro hardness tests were done on deposited layers. Also, electrical contact performance was carried out with electrical contact test set-up. Thereby, coating quality such as microstructure, crystallographic orientation and electrical contact performance of unreinforced and nanocomposite deposited layers were investigated. The addition of TiB2 significantly enhanced the electrical contact performance compared to unreinforced silver deposited layers. Also, pulse current and pulse reverse current method depositions improved mechanical and electrical contact performance.
