A Bibliometric Analysis of Authentic Leadership From Review to Future Research Directions

Özet
The concept of authentic leadership has gained popularity in the field of management. That has called for thorough research to understand the concept adequately. This research reviews the literature of authentic leadership and recommends research streams that future research works can focus on to understand the concept well. We used the HitCite software to conduct bibliometric citation analysis on a sample of 567 articles gathered from ISI Web of Science database. The analysis revealed the influential journals, authors, articles, and trending articles in the authentic leadership. We conducted a co-citation and content analysis of the 20 most influential research papers and classified them into nine
research streams in “zones” according to their philosophical/theoretical underpinnings and the level of analysis they adopted. We found that there are two criterions used by scholars in their attempts to make sense of the concept of authentic leadership. They are the level of analysis (intrapersonal, interpersonal, and developmental perspectives) and the philosophical and theoretical perspectives. Finally, the study recommended the directions of future research based on the top trending articles on authentic leadership.
