In this study, distortion analysis is performed for a three tone small signal input non-linear optoelectronic feedback laser diode system by using Volterra power series expansion. The third group (IMD3) intermodulation distortion (IMD) frequency components are selected which is used in symmetric and asymmetric communication systems. These are 1. (ω3 +2ω2 ).2. (ω3 -2ω2),3.{- 2ω2 -ω1),4.(ω3 -2ω1), 5.(2ω3 +ω2), (2ω3 -ω2),6. (2ω1+ω3), 7.(2ω1 + ω2), (2ω1x-ω2), 8. (2ω3 + ω1), (-2 ω3 + ω1), 9.(2ω2 + ω1) respectively. With the use of system approach for the calculation of the amplitudes of the selected frequency components, the series expansion of the laser diode rate equations is performed and the amplitudes are obtained as a function of the feedback constant (K) and the delay time (t 0). The results of the analysis show that symmetric and asymmetric amplitude situation for the frequency components of IMD3 varies in an unparallel situation. Finally, IMD3 frequency components are proposed for symmetric and asymmetric subcarrier lines (ASL) and asymmetric communication systems.
