Abstract

Many therapies and drugs have been used in the treatment of tinnitus which was effected the majority of population as a acoustic hallucination. The aim of this study is to test the effectiveness of intratympanic dexamethasone injections as a treatment for cochlear tinnitus. 18 patients who had unilaterally, cochlear tinnitus for less than 3 months time period were included this study. All of the patient's audiologic tests, visual analog scale and tinnitus handicapped index questionnaire were done before and 1 week after the treatment. Under the local anesthesia, dexamethasone 4mg/mL 0.5mL was injected intratimpanically every other day. This application was done totally 3 times for every patients. This study was showed that intratympanic dexamethasone treatment is an effective method for cochlear tinnitus and results were statistically significant (p<0.05). There was no adverse effect on vestibulocochlear functions.
