FLE Joint Conference 2021, Ankara, Turkey, 02 July 2021, pp.27-28
This talk aims to present the perceptions of learners at AYBU SFL
toward becoming self-determined learners by participating an extracurricular program which is
designed for learners to become metacognitively and meta-affectively prepared for the language
learning process, by engaging in peer reflective dialogues while implementing conceptualised
learning advising tools within synchronous online sessions. The program is based on Self-
Determination Theory (SDT) within its organismic perspective and PERMA, the five pillars of
well-being. Each session is implemented by conducting Intentional Reflective Dialogue within
the framework of the Equipped For the Future (EFF) Content Framework and Standards, which
helps to determine the specific knowledge and skills needed to overcome learning difficulties.
The preliminary findings of the content analysis of the data from the focus group discussions,
Group Speaking Activities
Flourishing as a Self-Determined Learner within the Play of Learning
questionnaires and the post-interviews will be presented suggesting that the program foster
satisfaction of learners’ needs of autonomy and wellbeing.
