It is possible to see traces of mathematics in many works of art that aim to have an order and aesthetic appearance. Geometry is widely used in many branches of art such as ornamentation, painting, sculpture, etc., especially in architectural works. There is a strong relationship between geometry and art during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods. Mosques, madrasahs, palaces, baths and caravanserais, etc. It is seen that Islamic geometric patterns are used in many architectural works such as wooden, plaster, brick, tile and stone materials and door, wall, pulpit, mihrab, window and ceiling decorations. These patterns were also used in book arts such as ornamentation, illumination, miniature, paperback and binding. As a matter of fact, when the studies in Islamic Architecture are examined, it is seen that the focus is on the analysis of geometric patterns. One of the most well-known elements of Islamic art and architectural works is in these patterns; It consists of the combination of forms such as triangle, square, rectangle, circle and star, and symbolizes the infinity of the universe, whose starting and ending points are unknown, by repeating the same cell.
In this study, the relationship between the geometric ornaments created using brick and brick-stone masonry, which are prominent in the window pediments in Bursa's early Ottoman architecture, and Turkish-Islamic Architecture was examined and detailed analysis was made. Although most of these works have undergone many restorations until today, it is still possible to see examples of the original geometric decorations, especially on the window pediments of the works. Within the scope of the study, Bursa Yıldırım Madrasa was chosen as an exemplary architectural work. As a result of the study, it was determined that there were differences in proportion and ratio in some places in the ornaments. It was also observed that the decorations used on window pediments used colors and common patterns used in Anatolian Seljuk period works. In addition, this study aims to create a catalog that can guide the restoration of these structures, which are currently in danger of extinction. Moreover, in the study, attention was drawn to the aesthetics that geometric ornaments, which have an important place in Turkish-Islamic art, added to the architectural works of the period and it was observed that they added character. However, it has been determined that the original patterns have lost their characteristics to a certain extent in recent restorations.
