Abstract

Methods: Twenty-Three women with FMS (FMS group) and 21 women without fibromyalgia syndrome (control group), having similar characteristics, were recruited in the study. FMS was diagnosed according to American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 1990 criteria. Balance using One-Legged Balance Test while eyes open and closed, trunk muscle endurance using McGill's Trunk Muscle Endurance Tests, flexibility using Sit and Reach Test were evaluated. Results: Both right and left leg balance scores with eyes open and closed, and trunk muscles endurance decreased in women with FMS group compared to control group (p<0.05). No differences were found in flexibility scores between the groups (p>0.05). Conclusion: Balance and trunk muscle endurance scores were lower in women with FMS when compared to the healthy subjects. Preventive exercise programs should be suggested to the women with FMS regarding balance impairment and trunk muscle endurance decrease.
