Abstract

Education, as a personal and professional training, as well as all sector of human activity is influenced by the globalization of the online environmental communication and distance learning and e-learning is rapidly becoming popular modes of studies among students and working adults worldwide. International Centre for Case-Mix and Clinical Coding (ITCC) developed the first online learning program for case-mix and clinical coding. The aim of this study is to find out reasons for attend to the first Casemix and clinical coding e-learning program. A descriptive analysis approach was utilized accordingly using SPSS software. From August 2011 till June 2013, a total number of 278 learners attended to the course from around the world (40 different countries). The mean age of subjects was 35.22 ± 9.69 years, ranged from 21 to 65 years old. In term of academic qualification, the learners were degree holders, post-graduate degrees, PhD holder followed by Medical Doctor. The two main predominant reasons for attending were because of personal development or to enhance their job skill. The respondents indicated that they attended to the course via online because of convenience of online learning (learning anytime anywhere) followed by flexibility on self-paced learning. By extremely increasing of Penetration Growth Rate of internet among developing countries internet becomes powerful to extend learning opportunities to millions of people. From the present enrollment of the learners and their demographic factors reveals, that there is a serious need to expand Casemix educational opportunities for developing countries and e- learning is one of the effective strategies to develop the knowledge and skills of healthcare staffabout Casemix system. E-learning holds the promise of educational opportunities for vast audiences across the globe to learn about Casemix system.
