Özet
The challenges in the production of cordierite ceramics are mainly caused by narrow sintering temperature range. To overcome these problems, the effect of liquidus temperature and composition on densification behavior and final properties of the cordierite ceramics were investigated. Four different compositions chosen from the MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 phase diagram were prepared from pure oxides and sintered at 1300 and 1350 °C. Their physical, mechanical, dielectric, and thermal properties were measured. The sample with the lowest liquidus temperature showed best densification by reaching 2.4 g/cm3 bulk density when sintered at 1300 °C. Cordierite phase formation was observed in all samples. 1.2 W/mK thermal conductivity and 73.4 MPa flexural strength were achieved. Approximately 5.2 dielectric constant was obtained at 0.001–5 MHz frequencies. Microstructural analysis proved isolated pore formation and homogeneous elemental distribution.
