Özet
Yunan
emzirmesi”, “Paris’in en güzel tanrıçayı seçmesi”, “Dev Argos’un gözlerini
The
goddess of women and marriage, known as Hera, wife and sister of Zeus in Greek
mythology, and Juno in Roman mythology. She also has the queen status among the
gods of Olympus and is also known as the queen of marriage. Accordingly,
she wears a crown. Her role in mythology and art is essentially that of the
wife of an unfaithful husband, as well as an example of a strong, jealous,
vicious and quarrelsome woman who plots revenge on her lovers. The two symbols
attributed to her in antiquity are the pomegranate, symbolizing fertility, and
a scepter surrounded by a cuckoo bird, the symbol of the betrayed wife. The
peacock, cow and pomegranate symbols attributed to the goddess Hera continue to
be used, especially in the Baroque period and beyond. In
single depictions, she is shown standing or enthroned as a woman with a full
body, a majestic and solemn face, and a serious and thoughtful gaze. “The Birth
of Milky Way”, “The Judgement of Paris”, "Placing the eyes of the giant
Argos in a peacock", "taking revenge on Hephaistos", "
changing Zeus' lover Io into a cow" and "taking revenge on Semele who
had an affair with Zeus" are the topics belonging to the mythology of the
Goddess Hera. This study aims to analyze the life of Hera, an important goddess
in Greek and Roman mythology, based on examples from different periods of
western art.
