There are three research questions of this edict. One of them is what kind of effence was drinking alcohol in accordance with practice. Was it a kind of ta'zir or hadd punishmet? The other research question is whether or not drinking alcohol was an offence in Ottoman for all the citizen. Was there any exception? The last research question of this edict is which punishments were executed for this offence. The aim of this edict is to find the answers of these questions. In this edict Old Ottoman is investigated, especially the 16th and 17th century. The orginality of this edict is to be examined the subject under a history of law lecturer's eyes first. This is the first time that a history of law lecturer examined the offence of drinking alcohol in old Ottoman.
