Visibility" and "Appearance" are significant terms for describing the complex relations among displaced people and societal perception of them in public spaces. The term "visibility" focuses on the visual sense, while "appearance" includes both the visual and auditory senses. The auditory sense is often overlooked in comparison to the visual sense. In this regard, the current study focuses on the audibility of displaced people as an alternative to their visibility and represents the results as a mapping study. Soundwalking, as a data collection method for soundscapes, seeks individuals' perceptions of space, thoughts, and feelings about what they hear as earwitnesses. This study interprets "Drifting" (or "Dérive"), a mapping method offered by the Situationists, as a form of soundwalking aimed at tracing the audible and inaudible soundscapes of the displaced Syrian community in Ankara, Turkey. Two sites are selected as case studies: Önder District and Yenimahalle District, which are predominantly preferred for living by the displaced people who came to Ankara and have different characteristics in terms of their acculturation to host societies. Önder District, where the displaced people are living as a visible community, and Yenimahalle District, where they prefer to hide among the locals and scatter around larger areas, are compared in terms of soundscape and the individual experience of hearing.
