The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the Labour Recruitment Agreement signed between Austria and Türkiye on 15 May 1964. The generations born and raised in the diaspora symbolize the continuity and future of the Turkish community abroad. Building on this historical significance, this study employs a qualitative narrative inquiry to address the question: “How do members of the third-generation Turkish community in Austria make sense of their everyday lives?”
Accordingly, the study aims to explore the daily life experiences of 60 young adults, aged 18–35, who were born and raised in Austria, in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the bilateral Labour Recruitment Agreement. The narratives of these third-generation individuals provide insight into how they position themselves between two countries, construct their sense of belonging, navigate their everyday experiences, relate to the first generation, maintain connections with Austrian society, and engage in processes of social integration. In doing so, the study captures diverse dimensions of their daily lives and sheds light on the evolving dynamics of the Turkish diaspora in Austria.
