Protective measures are practices that ensure the safely and efficient maintaining of the criminal trial process, serve to obtain and protect evidence and and serve to ensure the enforcement of the sentence decided at the end of the trial. Considering these aspects, the importance of protective measures with regard to the criminal procedure process is obvious. When protection measures are implemented, people's fundamental rights and freedoms are interfered. Applying these measures which results in the limitation of rights and freedoms, unlimitedly is impossible. The principle of proportionality is one of the most important limitations of these restrictions, and in our study, we have examined the aspects of the principle of proportionality in relation to each measure, both classical and modern, in terms of protection measures.
