The fact that more heat transfer occurs in heating and cooling systems where phase change takes place has led researchers to study in this field. Technological developments have caused to the necessity for phase change to occur in many geometries from plane surfaces to curved surfaces, from wide channels to microchannels. Therefore, within the scope of this review, studies on condensation, which is frequently encountered in various geometries in the practice, have been comprehensively studied. In this study, in which both theoretical and experimental researches were examined, a total of 134 sources, including 3 books, 1 technical note, 11 review studies, and 119 research articles, are reviewed. Among the sources examined, there are studies placed in a wide range of from Nusselt's pioneering article on the condensation published in 1916 to fundamental studies examining the condensation mechanism. All cases in these studies, from condensation on a plane surface to condensation on a sphere surface, from condensation in external flow to condensation in internal flow, from condensation of steam alone to condensation in the presence of a noncondensable gas, are statistically analyzed with the help of a table, then various graphs are formed and interpreted. In addition, a total of 28 correlations developed for Nusselt number or heat transfer coefficient in the reviewed studies covering the period between 1959 and 2023 are tabulated with their limitations in order to be useful for researchers studying in this field.
