Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the perceptions of research assistants about the aspects of academic intellectual leadership. The research was carried out based on phenomenology design from qualitative research designs. The maximum variation sampling method was preferred in the selection of samples to obtain more detailed information about academic intellectual leadership. Ten volunteer participants in the study mentioned that academic intellectual leaders are people with high level of knowledge, who guide the followers, defend their rights, and are forward-looking. Academic intellectual leadership plays an important role in the development of research assistants, so universities should demonstrate transformational leadership behaviours to provide an environment in which researchers can gain academic intellectual leadership qualities.
