Hot water epilepsy is one of the types of reflex epilepsy caused by pouring hot water over the head, face, neck or body during bathing. Although initially recognized as an epilepsy syndrome that is limited to certain geographic regions, hot water epilepsy is increasingly being reported around the world. Hot water epilepsy in infantile period occurs predominately in males. The complex partial seizure is the most frequent type of seizures. The exact pathophysiology of hot water epilepsy is unknown. Treatment strategies include avoiding hot water baths, antiepileptic drugs, and psycho-behavioural approaches. In the report, our aim is to review the clinical, pathophysiological and epidemiological aspects of hot water epilepsy by reporting seven cases with the diagnosis of hot water epilepsy.
