Özet

The honey which is produced in various parts of the world and Blac'k Sea Region of Turkey is also known as 'mad honey' by people it induces an unusual type of food poisoning causing bradycardia, hypotension and atrioventricular block. This honey contains grayanotoxin which comes from bees fed by a plant species called Rhododendron. Although mad honey intoxication is rare, it should be kept in mind that it could be mortal because of its cardiovascular and respiratory effects. In this case report, we presented a case with typical symptoms of poisoning after digesting mad honey more than normal daily amounts and treated after the early diagnosis by well taken anamnesis. It is pointed out that grayanotoxin amount and the toxicity of the honey consume may be more important than the amount of honey in the mad honey poisoning.
