Özet
Ayetlerin inme sebebi olarak tanımlayabileceğimiz sebeb-i nüzûl rivayetleri kimi zaman çeşitlilik göstermektedir.
The narrations regarding the reasons for the revelation of verses, often referred to as the "al-asbāb al-nuzūl," can exhibit a degree of diversity. Different explanations may be provided for the revelation of a verse, leading to ambiguity surrounding its rationale. Historical events associ-ated with the revelation may undergo changes over time, further complicating the matter. This article undertakes an analysis of the narrations concerning the reason for the revelation of the sixth verse of Surat al-Ḥujurāt. The main purpose of this study is to question the attribution of the label fāsiq mentioned in the sixth verse of Surat al-Ḥujurat to al-Walīd b. ʿUqba (d. 61/680-81). While it has been suggested that the characterization of "fāsiq" in the verse is attributed to Walīd b. ʿUqba (d. 61/680-81), the narrations on this subject, coupled with subsequent historical events, prompt a reevaluation of this characterization. It's significant to highlight that although he was accused of being a fāsiq due to an error made while serving as a zakat collector, Walīd b. ʿUqba was subsequently reinstated in the same position during the reigns of both Abū Bakr and ʿUmar and held an important position such as the governorship of Kūfa during the reign of Uthman. It is also noteworthy that the Prophet and the Companions allegedly did not criticize a person whose fāsiq was established by the verse. It is seen that the allegations of fāsiq regarding Walid started to be voiced after ʿUthman appointed him as the governor of Kūfa. This article delves into the background of the prevailing opinion regarding this verse and endeavors to pre-sent an alternative perspective on whether Walīd b. ʿUqba was indeed a fāsiq or not. In order to achieve this purpose, the earliest available exegetical and sīra sources on the subject are ana-lyzed in chronological order. Differences between the narrations have been expressed. As a re-sult, the historical process after the verse in question was revealed and the ambiguities in the narrations necessitate a reconsideration of the allegations of fāsiq status attributed to Walīd b. ʿUqba.
