Özet
Efforts to combat brain drain in Albania have intensified, with transnational ties and the diaspora playing a significant role in migration decisions among highly skilled Albanians. This article examines these dynamics, offering an initial overview of highly skilled worker migration, followed by an exploration of the Albanian diaspora, its organisation, evolution, and impact on the homeland. Drawing on interviews with Albanian workers in Germany, the study highlights the challenges and opportunities they encounter abroad. It also assesses the Albanian government’s initiatives to encourage the return of qualified workers and foster stronger diaspora connections. The paper concludes by addressing the dilemmas surrounding reintegration into Albania or further integration into host countries.
