Özet

Kelâm literatüründe peygamberlerin ismeti, vahyin eksiksiz ve güvenilir biçimde tebliğ edilmesinin temel dayanağı kabul edilir. Buna karşılık Kur’an’da peygamberlere yönelik uyarı niteliğinde itâb ifadeleri yer alır.
In kalām literature, the infallibility of prophets (ʿiṣma) is regarded as the fundamental basis for the complete and reliable transmission of revelation. However, the Qur’ān contains the iʿtāb expressions (divine peproach) that carry a warning or reproachful tone toward prophets. In addition, there are certain prophetic actions referred to by the concept of zalla. In this context, itāb expressions and zalla-related actions have given rise to debates concerning the nature of the attribute of infallibility. Accepting that prophets may have committed sins creates an impression of inconsistency with their prophetic mission. This article examines how issues of zalla and itāb, within the framework of infallibility, are interpreted by two prominent figures of the Ḥanafī-Māturīdī tradition, Abū Manṣūr al-Māturīdī (d. 333/944) and Nūr al-Dīn al-Ṣābūnī (d. 580/1184). The study analyzes concepts such as “zalla,” “itāb,” and “abandoning what is more virtuous (al-afḍal)” through a qualitative document analysis based on a review of the relevant literature, focusing on the works of al-Māturīdī and al-Sābūnī and employing textual and comparative analysis techniques. It is understood that both scholars grounded their views by employing methods such as the critique of transmitted reports, semantic analysis, and emphasizing the semantic coherence of the Qur’ān and hadiths. The findings show that both al-Māturīdī and al-Sābūnī acknowledged and defended the human nature of prophets, while also affirming that they were under divine support and protection unique to the station of prophethood.
