Özet
This article explores the objection of İktibas journal to the conceptualization of Islamic Civilization within the Islamic intellectual field in Turkey. It identifies that İktibas grounds its critique on three interrelated claims: that civilization, as a Western historical product, cannot be made compatible with Islam by mere prefixation; that civilizationism masks colonial domination; and that recent Islamic civilizational politics functions as a populist ruse. Considering these three claims, this article discusses İktibas’s contestation in relation with a struggle for epistemic delinking from Western hegemony, not only in content but also in form.
