Abstract

Aging is a major concern globally due to the aging-caused health problems and the economic and psychological cost it has on the caregivers as well as the elderly population. It has become increasingly important to keep the aging population an integral part of the economy as well as the social life. The cosmetics and medical industries have heavily invested in developing new and efficient products for delaying, stopping or reversing skin aging; however, many of these products are either not very efficient or involve major surgical interventions that need to be repeated after a certain period. Therefore, there is an immense need to develop novel methodologies that can prevent or reverse skin aging. There is an increasing interest in the use of nanomaterials in medicine, due to their efficiency in controlling and effecting biological processes. Nanomaterials have already been used in some anti-aging products with great success, and many nanomaterials have been shown to be much more efficient than alternative products. This article aims to review the efficacies of commercial anti-dermal aging nanomaterials and present the current scientific development for the nanomaterials that aim to be used in skin anti-aging.
