Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the plants used by the people living in the neighborhoods (villages) of Akçakale and Harran districts in the province of Şanlıurfa, and to determine the use of the plants in the light of the information obtained by the local people, to reveal the importance of the plant in terms of ethnobotany and to transfer the knowledge to the next generations. 101 taxa belonging to 39 families were identified at end of the study. The largest 5 families determined from the study area, according to the number of taxa, are respectively; Asteraceae (15), Fabaceae (12), Lamiaceae (10), Poaceae (6) and Malvaceae (5).When the taxa are evaluated ethnobotanically, 67 of them are used for medicinal, 34 of them are used for food, 8 of them are used for heating, 8 of them are used for belief, 5 of them are used for paint, 3 of them are used for broom, 3 of them are used for building material, 3 of them are used for aroma, 1 of them is used for ornament, 1 of them is used for blessing, 1 of them is used for fragrance, 1 of them is used for indicator, 1 of them is used for evil eye, 1 of them is used for toy, 1 of them is used for household goods, 1 of them is used for fodder, 1 of them is used for jewelry. In addition, 8 of these taxa are defined as harmful and 4 of them are only known by their local names.

Bu çalışmanın amacı; Şanlıurfa’nın Akçakale ve Harran ilçelerine bağlı mahallelerde (köylerde) yaşayan yöre insanının geleneksel yöntemler ile yararlanmakta olduğu bitkileri belirlemek ve bu bilgileri gelecek nesillere aktarmaktır. Yapılan çalışma sonucunda 39 familyaya ait 101 takson belirlenmiştir. Takson sayısına göre ilk beş familya; Asteraceae (15 takson), Fabaceae (12 takson), Lamiaceae (10 takson), Poaceae (6 takson) ve Malvaceae (5 takson)’dir. Etnobotanik açıdan çalışma alanında belirlenen taksonların 67’si tıbbi, 34’ü gıda, 8’i yakacak, 8’i inanç, 5’i boya, 3’ü süpürge, 3’ü yapı malzemesi, 3’ü aroma, 1’i süs, 1’i koruyucu, 1’i koku, 1’i indikatör, 1’i nazarlık, 1’i oyun, 1’i ev eşyası, 1’i yem, 1’i takı amaçlı kullanılmaktadır. Ayrıca bu taksonlardan 8’i zararlı olarak tanımlanmaktadır. 4 takson ise sadece isim olarak tanınmaktadır.
