Abstract
Care through Flipped Social Emotional Learning Applications
Care, a significant educational goal, "is basic in human life -that all people want to be
cared for."(Noddings, 2002, p.11). With a consideration of this perspective, care is
placed at the centre of these applications, determining what to learn/teach and how.
To this end, Flipped Learning (FL) and Social Emotional Learning (SEL) principles have
also been implemented. As such, 'in what sense do these widely accepted principles"
(Strelan, Osborn & Palmer, 2020) make a difference? becomes an important research
question. This study primarily aims to lay the groundwork for the relevant discussion
by considering the functioning of these principles in a case study at a public university.
Students' perceived gains are explored when only one factor, “task,” is diversified with
the incorporation of FL and SEL principles. Self-report surveys and focus group
discussions are used for data collection and findings are presented with reference to
their implications.
