Özet

Distributed optical fiber sensors have become attractive and sought after in various applications owing to their low costs, longer durability, easier maintenance and simpler detection means compared to their classical counterparts. Among these sensors, the optical time domain reflectometer (OTDR) has been one of the most utilized especially in monitoring fiber network’s structural integrity, namely, fault detection, attenuation detection, bending detection and break detection. In this work, a classical OTDR system based on Rayleigh backscattering is setup and simulated in Optisystem 16. In this design the fiber under test (FUT) is split into 10 equal length segments with only one connector attached in between. Then, using time domain analysis methods, the location of the connector is detected successfully.
