Abstract

Recent surveys as well as several artifacts discovered during such surveys in Şanlıurfa have revealed that the finds from the 1st Millennium B.C.

are concentrated in this region. The surface surveys conducted in the region between 1998-2001 regarding the 1st Millennium B.C. have unearthed

new artifacts dated to the 1st Millennium B.C. from locations such as Gölpınar, Kabahaydar-Edene/Gürpınar, Külaflı Tepe, Siverek-Central district,

Mehmedihan-Aşağı Seyek, Hilvan-Aslanlı, Şanlıurfa / Central District, Haçgöz, Harran, Til Hinta and Kap Village. As several artifacts discovered

in the region and dated to 1st Millennium B.C. were unearthed in the past and as there are no museums established in the region, said artifacts were transported to museums in Adana, İstanbul and Ankara. The systematic surface surveys conducted in Şanlıurfa since 2000 has augmented the number of finds from 1st Millennium B.C.5. In particular, the studies conducted under Şanlıurfa Provincial Cultural Inventory between 2000-2007 and since 2011 contributed significantly in discovery of new settlements from this era.
