Özet

Language learners often respond to reflective classroom questions with automatic or socially expected answers that limit deeper engagement and self-awareness. This session introduces a creativity-based reflective dialogue approach inspired by arts-based practices and informed by Self-Determination Theory (SDT). Instead of asking learners to explain emotions or challenges directly, students engage with imaginative metaphorical prompts that unexpectedly open space for honest, emotionally rich, and personally meaningful reflection. Drawing from university-level elective course contexts, the presentation shares brief classroom examples showing how creative prompts can support autonomy, learner agency, and meaningful dialogue while reducing communicative pressure. The session also demonstrates how reflective responses can be transformed into actionable learning goals through autonomy-supportive dialogue practices. Participants will leave with adaptable reflective prompt ideas and practical strategies for integrating creativity, reflection, and SDT-informed learner support into language education contexts.
