This study examines if the Luddite and Chartist movements have a class character that would have destroyed capitalist relations by evaluating the concept of the class movement of Marxism and contrasting these movements with other class movements in the same region in the 18th and 19th centuries. The perception of the Marxist class movement and the Luddite - Chartist movements have a strong affinity to be shaped by the demand for workers. However, the Luddite and Chartist movements involved a bargain against the grievances of workers regarding the economic and social conditions created by the capitalist industrial revolution. Additionally, these movements imply seeing the cause of the problems in the machines rather than being a struggle against the whole system so that these movements can abolish capitalism. Therefore, although these movements have led to social and economic gains on the part of the workers, it is debatable whether they can be considered a Marxist working-class movement. In order to answer the main question of this study, it is necessary to examine both the general characteristics of these movements and the conditions of the time span mentioned earlier of the Luddite and Chartist movements in the context of the inevitability of the industrial revolution and the centralization and concentration of capital. Both the fact that the aim of the movements is not to overthrow capitalism and the lack of class consciousness in these movements will be investigated in terms of being the source of the mentioned issues.
