Biography

Akartürk Karahan

(Prof. Dr., Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Turkish Language and Literature)

Akartürk Karahan was born in 1976 in Çorum, Turkey. She completed her primary, secondary, and high school education in Çorum. She earned her bachelor's degree in Turkish Language and Literature Teaching from Karadeniz Technical University (1999), her master's degree in Contemporary Turkish Dialects from Niğde University (2003), and her Ph.D. in Old Turkish Language from Ankara University (2009). She has held various academic positions in the Departments of Turkish Language and Literature at Niğde University, Ankara University, and Yıldırım Beyazıt University. With a postdoctoral research fellowship from TÜBİTAK, she was a visiting scholar at Michigan State University (MSU) in the United States during the 2016-2017 academic year. Currently, she is a faculty member in the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, specializing in Old Turkish Language, at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University.

Her research focuses on Old Turkic dialects and historical vocabulary. Karahan's notable works include:

- "Turkic Dialectology of the 11th Century According to Divanu Lugati’t-Türk" (Ankara, 2013)

- "Conjunctions in Old Uighur" (Ankara, 2014)

- "My Beloved Beautiful Hasine: Captain Şerafettin’s Letters to His Wife, 1911-1922," co-authored with Timur Kocaoğlu (Ankara, 2017)

- "An Example of İsmail Bey Gaspıralı's Efforts for Renewal in the Turkish World: The Magazine Âlem-i Sıbyân 1911-1912" (Istanbul, 2020)

- "Collected Poems of the Forgotten Poet of the War of Independence Dr. Şerafettin Bey (1889-1922)," co-authored with Timur Kocaoğlu and Tülay Gençtürk Demircioğlu (Ankara, 2021)

- "Studies in Turkic World Language, Culture, and Literature," edited by Akartürk Karahan (Istanbul, 2021)

Additionally, she has authored numerous articles, papers, and projects related to Old Turkic dialects and vocabulary, as well as the historical periods of the Turkic language.
