Abstract:

This study was conducted descriptively to determine the needs of intensive care nurses for consultation-liaison psychiatric nursing in psychosocial care of patients. The universe of the study was composed of 110 nurses working in adult intensive care units of Ankara Gazi University Health Research and Application Center, and the sample consisted of 80 nurses who agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected between February 15 and December 15, 2020 with a twopart data collection form developed by there searcher, which includes questions about the socio-demographic characteristics of nurses and their consultation liaison psychiatric nursing needs. The data were evaluated using frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation in SPSS 25 program. The average score of the general knowledge level obtained by the nurses participating in the study from the questionnaire for determining the consultation liaison psychiatric nursing needs was 59.50 (± 20.74) out of 100 points, the psychosocial needs average score was 22.63 (± 10.16) out of 30, physiological needs points. It was found that the mean score was 18.25 (± 9.25) out of 30, and the mean score of needing to consult KLPH was 18.63 (± 12.30) out of 40. In addition, it was found that psychosocial needs scores differed statistically significantly according to the educational status of the nurses (H = 6.55, p = 0.038). According to this result; It was observed that the average score of nurses with a high school or associate degree (30.00 ± 0.00) was higher than that of nurses with a master's degree (17.14 ± 9.51) (p <0.05). As a result, the score that the intensive care nurses got from the questionnaire was low and it was observed that consultation liaison was in sufficient in determining the need for psychiatric nursing. For this reason, in order to provide holistic nursing care, it is recommended to develop in-service training programs that will increase their knowledge and skills in psychosocial care and regulations where they can apply for consultation-liaison psychiatric nursing support when necessary.
