Abstract:

Why there are similar verses in the Qur'an? Is there a difference of meaning between the similar verses or verses are merely repetition? What is the main issue? We aimed to reveal the commentator's opinions comparatively about the similar verses. And to find answers to such question in our study. Verses according to wisdom and neason where they are mentioned. İn the study the Arabic and the Turkish meaning of alike verses put together, after mentioning the differences between the verses, the wisdom and the reason of the difference is explained according to the meaning in the dictionaries in the Qur'an context. If needed, it is objectively tried to evaluate the Turkish translation of the verses and the translation method. The most important obtained results from the similar verses issue is about repetition. The wisdom of the repetition is also acceptable in the similar verses. On the other hand, Qur'an besides being a verbal appeal, the adress being revealed in 23 years, verses being presented in different forms to interlocutor caused similar verses to occur in the Qur'an. From these basic points, based on the ground of Qur'an some issues are repeated with different utterances. The basic criticism about the verses which are seen as repetitive or similar is sourced from comparing Qur'an with today's written books. Whereas, Qur'an is the only one of its kind with its content and using language manner. Hence, because of its unique features not being familiar with today's book styles, its qualification disaccording with common book classification, shouldn't be seen as a problem or a deficiency. The most important factor of similar or repetitive verses in the Qur'an is its content, context. The context not being changed or repetition with slight differences played a great role in its choice and utterances. From the point view of Meccan and Medinan verses, it is seen that most of the similar verses are Meccan. Likewise, when we look at the issues about similar verses, most of them are detected in the expression of stories and faith strengthening. Similar verses about verdict issues are less found. The utterances of similar verses in the Qur'an may differ. It is possible to see this in the same surahs and the different verses.
